Event Recap: @VietFashionWeek Presents: @PeterPhan, @AlexeQuynn, @JackyTai, @TimothyHoang, @VickiNguyen, @AnnieNguyen, & @CynthiaBui at The Westminster Rose Center by @Kimbo_Jenks
Created by former model and Runway Entertainment founder, Tracy Pham, Vietnamese Fashion Week started in Orange County in 2013 as a way to bring together fashion design, entertainment, and art to bring awareness to Vietnamese culture. This year it was held at the beautiful Westminster Rose Garden where Vietnamese designers showcased almost 200 of their latest couture designs over the course of 2 days. In this post, I’ll be showing you a peek at each designer’s unique collection. Below is a list by day of designers who showed their collections during Viet Fashion Week.
The sides of a 200 foot runway were decorated with hanging origami lights and two large projection screens signified the start of the runway show with video clips of each designer then music videos during the show. In between the runway shows were amazing performances by vocal artists Andy Quach, Helena Ngoc Hong, & Dante Tran aka “Fortune” performing their latest hits.
The Vietnamese know how to party! Afterwards all the designers, models, buyers, photographers and everyone else met up at the Bleu Lounge to network and enjoy the rest of their night. The event received plenty of international exposure with TV episodes that aired on Vietface TV – Direct TV channel 2076 nationwide and Vietface TV – OC channel 57.2 for Orange County featuring the designers, model castings, fittings, dress rehearsals, and backstage preparations. Some of the sponsors and media crews who came to help promote this fast growing production were Lexor, Morgan Taylor professional nail lacquer, Advance Beauty college, VACOC Vietnamese American Chamber of Commerce, as well as Viet Beauty Magazine, and ModXchange.
Designer, Calvin Hiep, was all about that hot red with his twist on the traditional Vietnamese designs using high slits and sheer fabrics topping them off with large expressive headpieces. I was honored to wear one of Calvin’s designs created with plastic spoons all clustered together in a flower design covered in wax and red glue. (Far right)
Designer, Jacky Tai, showed off a variety of designs that captivated the audience. Included in his collection were some avant garde pieces, some traditional Vietnamese dresses, and some fun flirty cocktail attire.
Tim Hoang’s collection was both sexy and classy. He didn’t go wrong with black, gold, and leather. Let these romantic beauties grace you with their hip-swing and fierce glares.
The Peter Phan Label can’t be mistaken. His designs are one of a kind and he knows how to put on a performance. The models were all dolled up with a traditional Vietnamese hairstyle, in his traditional Vietnamese designs with a stylish fashion forward twist.
Vicki Nguyen knows how to bring the Summer heat with her sexy swimwear. The models looked great in these colorful bikinis, cut just right for their trim bodies and perfect for this beach season in Huntington.
Cynthia Bui graced us with lovely pastel pink dresses that flowed like flower petals in the wind. Her dresses where different in that she bedazzled some of them with sparkling silver jewelry around the neckline, shoulders, and around the waist.
Bringing the wedding to the runway was Annie Nguyen. Her designs will make you fall in love with the dress in simple and sweet princess styles. When is your wedding date? Check out Annie Nguyen:
I was honored once more to walk in the show, this time for Quynn Tran in her Paris inspired designs. (first row, second to the left). All of us models looked ready for a tea party date with our dainty, fluffy dresses, and feather entwined lace head pieces!
