March 21, 2015 was a special night for Haitian designers as they traveled far to debut their new collections and spread their message at Style Fashion Week at The Reef in Los Angeles. These non-profit designers collectively dream to shine the light on promoting peace in Haiti, showing off the lively energy and the beautiful land they live in. They hope to disprove the negative stereotypes attached with Haiti due to war and destruction in the Caribbean. From the profit they receive, they place English teachers in Haiti to teach both the youth and adults which brings families and the community together.

10849076_846870942017310_9098934090043119122_oThe beautiful and intricate lantern which hung above their table that night signified a guiding light down this new path, bridging the gap of diversity and shining light on their beautiful culture. The theme for these designers was “A Night to Peace in Haiti Celebrating the Importance of Womanhood.” These Haitian designers vary in their craft from swimwear, to evening gowns, dresses, and everyday wear. The distinctive Haitian flavor came through boldly and proudly with their big and colorful patterns.

The Style Fashion Week runway was painted white just hours before the show and contrasted by the black surrounding curtains, it helped bring to life each piece of clothing and highlight each of the designers personalities. Seating was plentiful and as usual StyleFW’s lounge before the runway allowed all to enjoy and connect with comfy gold couches, a DJ, a bar, and round tables for all to sit at. StyleFW has been hosting shows with world-renowned designers since 2009 during Los Angeles, New York, and Dubai Fashion Weeks. In attendance are people locally, nationally, and internationally. At the event was StyleFW Sponsors: New York Life, The American Heart Association, Prive, Starlooks, and Glam Squad.

In this post, I’ll be showing you coverage from that night and be on a look out for photos of me modeling in the show!

 Outsiderz Co.

Designer, Sagine Jean Denis, dances with her model at the end of her show.

Sagine Jean Denis launched her company in 2012 and in 2014 she extended her brand adding her new line called Carnival Diamonds Inc. This swimwear line came from the West Indies inspired by the carnival scene with it’s extravagant costumes covered in crystals and feathers as an expression of the beauty, music, and masquerades that take place there.

One of my favorite swimsuits from her collection is this jeweled piece with a beautiful blue feathered headpiece. Also, what stood out was the haltered swim top with a tropical print that comfortably wraps around the body making one feel sexy, but still covered (first row, far right).

Lady R Creations

Designer, Ruth Michel Dupoux, walks the runway with her models for her finale.

Ruth Michel Dupoux showcased her Resort Collection called the “Golden Flower” because it was inspired by the golden flower that blooms in Haiti in the Spring. She first showcased her collection in December 2013 in Haiti, then Miami, New York, Montreal, and Mexico. Ruth became a talented designer when she attended school in Paris to study styling and fashion design. She has grown quickly over the past year and has developed two brands, Lady R Collections showcasing four collections, as well as her lingerie line called, Deshabille-Moi.

My favorite was her bright, eye-catching yellow two piece that I modeled that night (first row, second to the left). It gives you that gypsy feel while showing off your sexy slim waist. Ruth’s Summer swim cover-ups are flowy, light, and perfect for this season.

Joppa Couture

Designer, Josette Bayoro, waves to the crowd at StyleFW.

Joppa Couture was first created in 1976 by Josette Bayoro who designs for women of all sizes as seen in her dresses below. She creates beautiful gowns for brides, special events, or as everyday wear. Her pieces are exceptional; hence, they perfectly exemplify Haitian culture. She uses big, bold prints that match a woman’s body and accentuate her lovely curves.

Twin models, @Twoofakind, sparked much attention when they walked down the runway in Joppa Couture. The construction of her designs and beautiful baroque patterns could compliment any woman’s body making them feel like a queen just as Josette intended. I was so honored to wear Josette’s butterfly dress which hugged my body’s curves. Attached at the shoulders are wings that sway and flow with each step and with each swing of the arm (first row, far right and middle).

 M.A Collection by Mario Andresol

2M.A Collection was created in 2012 to represent more of the Caribbean way of life in a positive light. This collection goes from the streets, to red carpet with his Rock N Roll wear and men’s suits. It’s a new twist on the West Indie urban fashion style and he strives to look into the future of design that fits youth, teens and adults.

“With extreme attention to detail, and a precise vision, we don’t just make clothes that look cool. We make statements through the avenue of fashion.” –Mario Andresol

A highlight was M.A’s striped blue and black slick button up under the slick black suit (first row, second to the right). This outfit makes for a charming impression when one walks through the door, or should I say, down the runway.

In the end, we see the inspiring message these Haitian designers brought with them through their beautiful collections. It was a success at StyleFW for these designers and I can’t wait for next season!
