DIY Ugly Christmas Sweater!

It’s that time of year again! Christmas is here and the parties are happening in full force. It used to be that you could just pop on over to your local thrift shop and within a matter of minutes you would have an armful of ugly sweaters to choose from. While some stores have a section specifically dedicated to ugly Christmas sweaters around this time of year, the prices are a pretty penny for a tacky garment you’ll only wear once or twice a year. So why not take the thrifty route and do it yourself? There isn’t really any specific process or set of steps on how to make an ugly Christmas sweater, because every person has a different idea or definition of the word ugly. I took 2 different ideas and combined them onto an old sweater I thrifted right out of my mom’s closet.

Here’s what you’ll need:

An Old Thrifted Sweater

Hot Glue Gun – this will be your best friend in this project!

Tinsel Garland

Gift Bows

Ribbon

Duct Tape

Glitter Glue (Mine came in pen form)

Scissors

Anything else you want to decorate with! I threw on some silk poinsettias and various gift tags.

This was such a fun project to do! Like I said, there isn’t really any rhyme or reason to it so every person’s sweater will be different. The greatest part of this DIY is that I didn’t have to spend a dime! Everything I used was already here in my house. At most, it would cost a couple bucks to pick up a sweater at your local thrift shop. I’m sure you’ve got Christmas decorations laying around! And now for the big reveal: My finished sweater! Check out the awesome tacky-ness!
